Many people take no care of their money till they come nearly to the end of it, and others do just the same with their time.” -- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

The Eurozone has been sinking into a steady and extended recession, and if there is some reason for that trend to reverse itself in the near future, it isn’t an obvious one at the moment.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -- Winston Churchill

For the moment, investors continue to see any signs of a sharp market drop as a clear buying opportunity, rather than as a time to panic and exit the market.

In other words, greed currently trumps fear on Wall Street.

Is this a perfect time for a contrarian play or what?

Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.” -- William Shakespeare

In spite of the fact that the market has been hitting record highs recently, the deep disconnect between Main Street and Wall Street, accelerated by the budget cuts known as the sequester, will likely cause the Bulls to retreat in a serious way within the next couple of earnings seasons.

“Nothing like a little judicious levity.”-- Robert Louis Stevenson

A few weeks back, when word hit Wall Street that the Cyprus government planned to impose an across-the-board tax on the depositors of its two biggest banks, the major indices fell sharply and quickly.

Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value.” -- Albert Einstein

Ben Bernanke is back for yet another close-up this week, and in spite of a certain degree of dissent amongst the Fed ranks, chances are better than even-money that the press conference that follows this week’s gathering of the Federal Open Market Committee Meeting (FOMC) will find Big Ben indicating that the super low interest rates, strong stimulus tack will remain in place.

Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.  -- Pablo Picasso

If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” -- Dale Carnegie

Wall Street has been locked into a sideways trend for the last month or so, see-sawing between January’s predominately bullish momentum and a newfound wave of investor indecisiveness, something that was mostly absent the first four weeks of the year to date.

Is Ben Bernanke about to change all that? And if so, which side of the fulcrum will he tilt the market towards?

Hesitation increases in relation to risk in equal proportion to age.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wall Street is on a nice little run at the moment, precisely the sort that is almost too seductive to avoid. So does that in fact make it the time to avoid it?

Maybe, maybe not. Yet bandwagons should be, at the very least, soundly considered prior to hopping aboard one.

The market is most decidedly on a nice little roll so far this year. Out of the twenty-two sessions that have taken place to date, both the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and the S&P 500 Index (SPX) have been in the black nearly two-thirds of the time.

So is all this a collective post-fiscal cliff sigh of relief from investors? Sure, that plays a part in the recent bull run now underway, as do the domestic economic numbers, particularly gains in employment numbers and positive growth in manufacturing numbers, as indicated in the rise of the ISM Index. But do these factors really justify the SPX coming within 60 points of hitting its all-time high?

People have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working order so they'll have good voice boxes in case there's ever anything really meaningful to say.” -- Kurt Vonnegut

Investors seem ready to forgive and forget a lot of the problems that inhabited the 2012 equity market.

And why not?
