First Trust Portfolios Leverages Sabrient Systems’ Baker’s Dozen Stocks
for Unit Investment Trust

The UIT marks the first time the Baker’s Dozen is available as a vehicle to individual investors and financial advisors

Santa Barbara, Calif. – Jan. 23, 2013 – Sabrient Systems, LLC, an independent equity research firm that specializes in alpha extraction through quantitative and qualitative analysis, announced today a collaboration with First Trust Portfolios L.P. (First Trust) for a unit investment trust (UIT). Comprised of the picks in the Sabrient Systems’ 2013 Baker’s Dozen – 13 top-ranked stocks that Sabrient Systems expects to outperform their peers in 2013 – the UIT allows investors to hold stocks for 13 months, thus receiving favorable long-term capital gains treatment.

As a sponsor of the UIT, First Trust will make it available to investors through broker-dealers nationwide. This marks the first time the Baker’s Dozen will be available as a UIT, allowing the Sabrient Systems’ proprietary selection process to be packaged as a turnkey product to facilitate easy execution for the investor.

“Individual investors and financial advisors are looking for ways to benefit from long-term investment vehicles that have traditionally been reserved for institutional firms,” said David Brown, Chief Market Strategist for Sabrient Systems. “Our quantitative process allows us to find hidden gems within the equities market based on the data we gather and our selection methodology, which includes evaluating companies’ aggressiveness in their accounting practices. Firms with the most aggressive practices are not eligible for the Baker’s Dozen.”

The 13 stocks in the UIT will be held for 13 months and liquidated at the end of that period when the UIT terminates without additional effort by the investor .
